Subwoofer box for a Ford Excursion
The Excursion is the biggest SUV Ford ever built, on a Super Duty frame. Space is not the problem here — the long cabin is: it lifts the bass less than a small cab, so the box and subs are bigger.
Where the sub goes
- Behind the third row. A wide box against the seat back, still leaving the third row usable.
- In place of the third row. Many builds remove it for a big multi-sub ported box or a wall.
- Under the second row. Little room — this is not a truck crew cab.
The Super Duty trucks it is based on are in the F-150 and F-250 guide.
Pick a sub for this spaceThe calculator opens with the vehicle and the space from this guide and lists the subs that fit there, each with its box. Then adjust the size to your own vehicle.
Example: behind the third row
Say the space is 44″ wide, 14″ deep and 16″ high. With ¾″ walls the inside is 42.5 × 12.5 × 14.5″ — about 4.5 ft³ gross: two 12″ sealed with room to spare, a single 15″ ported (2.5–4 ft³ net plus the port) or two 12″ ported at the small end. The numbers are an example — measure your Excursion.
Bass in a long cabin
The lift from the cabin starts lower in a long SUV than in a pickup cab, and the box sits far from the front seats. Compare the response with your body type in the calculator before you decide on the number of subs.
Design it for your Excursion
Enter the space, pick your subs and compare sealed and ported; the calculator checks the port fits, draws the box and gives you the cut list and DXF.

Where does a subwoofer go in a Ford Excursion?
In the cargo area behind the third row, or in place of the third row if you take it out. There is room for big boxes and several subs.
Does the big cabin need a bigger system?
A long cabin lifts the bass less than a small car and from a lower frequency, so the same sub sounds a little leaner. Plan more cone area or a ported box.
What about the electrical system?
Big systems need current: check the alternator and battery, use a thick power wire and fuse it close to the battery. Diesel Excursions have two batteries, which helps.
