Subwoofer box for a Hummer H2
The H2 is a wide, heavy SUV on a GM truck frame, and a popular base for loud builds. The SUV has a big cargo area; the H2 SUT is closer to a Chevy Avalanche, with a midgate and a short bed.
Where the sub goes
- H2 SUV: cargo area. A box against the rear seat back or a wedge that follows it. There is room for a big ported box.
- H2 SUT: under the rear seat. Behind the seat is the midgate, so the box goes underneath, low enough for the seat to fold.
- Factory sub. Some H2s have a premium audio system with a subwoofer; an aftermarket box usually replaces it.
Example: cargo area
Say the space is 40″ wide, 15″ deep and 16″ high. With ¾″ walls the inside is 38.5 × 13.5 × 14.5″ — about 4.4 ft³ gross: a single 15″ ported (2.5–4 ft³ net plus the port), a 12″ ported with room to spare or two 12″ sealed. The numbers are an example — measure your H2.
Cabin gain
The H2 cabin is closed and fairly short for its size, so it lifts the deep bass with the windows up. In the SUT, opening the midgate and rear window joins the cab to the bed and takes most of that away.

In the cargo area behind the rear seat: a box against the seat back or a wedge. In the H2 SUT, under the rear seat — behind it is the midgate.
Does the H2 have a factory subwoofer?
Some H2s came with a premium audio system that has a subwoofer. Check yours before planning the space — an aftermarket box usually replaces it.
What size box fits in an H2?
The cargo area is wide: a 12″ or 15″ ported box, or two 12″ sealed, still leave some room. Measure first — the spare and the third-row seat option change the space.
