Subwoofer box for a Toyota Tacoma
A Tacoma is a midsize truck, and its cab is noticeably tighter than a full-size one. The sub box has to be shallow and well shaped — but the small cab also means a small box sounds deep.
Where the sub goes
- Double Cab. Under the rear seat or behind it, in a low box with shallow subs. Many years have small storage compartments there — measure around them.
- Access Cab. Behind the front seats, where the small rear jump seats are, or in the side storage areas: compact boxes or ones shaped to the side panel.
- Tundra. A full-size crew cab: under the rear seat, like an F-150.
- 4Runner. An SUV: the box goes in the cargo area against the rear seat, as in a Jeep.
Pick a sub for this spaceThe calculator opens with the vehicle and the space from this guide and lists the subs that fit there, each with its box. Then adjust the size to your own vehicle.
Example: under a Double Cab seat
Say the space is 44″ wide, 12″ front to back and 8″ high. With ¾″ walls the inside is 42.5 × 10.5 × 6.5″ — about 1.7 ft³ gross. That fits one 10″ sealed (0.5–0.9 ft³ by the sub) with room to spare, or two shallow 8″. With only 6.5″ inside, the sub’s mounting depth plus the baffle has to stay below that — look for shallow-mount models.
Cab gain
The small cab lifts the bass below about 70 Hz, so a sealed box sounds full. The buttons in “Pick a sub for this space” above open the calculator with this already set: the vehicle, where the box goes and the size of the space.
Design it for your Tacoma
Measure the space, enter it with the wedge angle if the seat back leans, pick a shallow sub from the database and the calculator checks that it fits, draws the box and gives you the cut list and DXF.

Where does a subwoofer go in a Toyota Tacoma?
In a Double Cab, under or behind the rear seat in a low, shallow box. In an Access Cab, behind the front seats, where the small rear jump seats are, or in the side storage areas. Space is tighter than in full-size trucks.
What size sub fits in a Tacoma Double Cab?
Usually one 10″ or two 8″ shallow subs in a sealed box. The low inside height is the limit, so shallow-mount subs are the common choice.
Sealed or ported in a Tacoma?
Sealed in most cases: there is little room, and the cab already lifts the deep bass.
What about a Tundra or 4Runner?
A Tundra crew cab works like other full-size trucks — under the rear seat. A 4Runner is an SUV: the box goes in the cargo area, like in a Jeep or Bronco.
