Subwoofer box for a Chevy Camaro
The modern Camaro is famous for its small trunk opening. The box has to be designed around that opening first and the trunk second — otherwise it will not go in.
Where the sub goes
- 2016–2024 (6th gen) and 2010–2015 (5th gen). In the trunk, in a box shaped to pass through the opening. The convertible has even less trunk space.
- 1993–2002 (4th gen). A hatchback: the cargo area is open to the cabin, so a box there gets more cabin gain. T-tops leak a little.
- Factory sub. Cars with the premium audio option have a sub; an aftermarket box usually replaces it.
Example: a box sized to the opening
Say the box is 30″ wide, 13″ deep and 12″ high — sized to pass through the opening. With ¾″ walls the inside is 28.5 × 11.5 × 10.5″ — about 2.0 ft³ gross: a 12″ sealed (0.75–1.5 ft³) or a 10″ ported (0.75–1.25 ft³ net plus the port). The numbers are an example — measure your trunk opening.
Bass through the trunk

Where does a subwoofer go in a Chevy Camaro?
In the trunk. In the 2010–2015 and 2016–2024 cars the trunk opening is small, so the box is built to fit through it. A 1993–2002 Camaro is a hatchback with a cargo area open to the cabin.
How do I get a box into a Camaro trunk?
Measure the opening — width, height and the diagonal — and design the box to pass through it. Some builders assemble the box inside the trunk from panels.
What size sub fits?
A 12″ sealed or a 10″ ported in a box sized to the opening; two 10″ sealed in a shallow, wide box if the opening allows it.
