Subwoofer box for a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y
A Tesla is quiet, so bass is easy to hear — and easy to want more of. There is no spare tire, and the deep well under the rear trunk floor is the natural place for a hidden box.
Where the sub goes
- Model Y: well under the rear floor. Deep enough for a sealed 10″ or 12″ box under the floor panel, firing up through a grille or into the cargo area.
- Model 3: under the trunk floor. A shallower well in a sedan trunk; a slim sealed box. The trunk is separate from the cabin, so the bass loses a little on the way in.
- Frunk. Outside the cabin — not a good place for a sub.
The same idea as a spare tire well box.

Example: a box in the Model 3 well
Owners measure the Model 3 well (2017–2023) at about 24″ wide, 18″ front to back and 11.8″ deep; in the 2024+ Model 3 it is about 24.8″ wide, 12.6″ front to back and 11.4″ deep at its narrowest. A box 24 × 12 × 11″ fits both. With ¾″ walls the inside is 22.5 × 10.5 × 9.5″ — about 1.3 ft³ gross: a 10″ sealed (0.5–0.9 ft³) or a shallow 12″ sealed at the small end. The Model Y well is bigger, but owners’ measurements differ — measure yours.
Power and signal
Run the amp from the low-voltage battery side, fuse it close to the battery and keep its power within what the DC-DC converter can supply. Never connect anything to the high-voltage system. For signal, a line-output converter or a vehicle-specific harness takes it from the factory system.

Where does a subwoofer go in a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y?
Most often in the well under the rear trunk floor: the box sits in it and the floor stays flat. In a Model Y the well is deeper; in a Model 3 the trunk is a separate sedan trunk.
Can a Tesla power an aftermarket amp?
Only from the low-voltage system, which is fed by a DC-DC converter with limited output. Keep the amp moderate, fuse it, and never touch the high-voltage system. Check what your model year allows before you buy an amp.
Does the Tesla already have a subwoofer?
Many trims have premium audio with a factory sub. An aftermarket sub adds deeper bass; plan how to get a sub signal from the factory system.
