Subwoofer box for a Ford Bronco
The Bronco is an off-road SUV with a removable roof and doors — much like a Jeep Wrangler. The box has to fit the cargo area, leave room for gear, sound right with the top on or off and survive water and dust.
Where the sub goes
- 4-door. The cargo area behind the rear seat takes a 12″ ported box or two 10″ subs in a sealed box; a wedge that follows the seat back saves floor space.
- 2-door. Less cargo depth: a shallow 10″ in a wedge box against the rear seat is the usual choice.
Pick a sub for this spaceThe calculator opens with the vehicle and the space from this guide and lists the subs that fit there, each with its box. Then adjust the size to your own vehicle.

Example: a box behind the rear seat
Say the space behind the rear seat of a 4-door is 36″ wide, 13″ deep and 14″ high. With ¾″ walls the inside is 34.5 × 11.5 × 12.5″ — about 2.9 ft³ gross: enough for a single 12″ ported box (1.5–2.5 ft³ net plus the port) or two 10″ sealed.
Top on, top off
With the hard top and doors on, the cabin lifts the deep bass. With them off, it is almost gone. The buttons in “Pick a sub for this space” above open the calculator with this already set: the vehicle, where the box goes and the size of the space.
Water, dust and mounting
- Seal the MDF, cover it with marine carpet or vinyl, stand the box on rubber feet.
- Bolt it to the cargo tie-downs or a bracket — straps loosen off-road.

Where does a subwoofer go in a Ford Bronco?
In the cargo area behind the rear seat: a box against the seat back, or a wedge that follows its angle. In a 4-door there is room for a 12″ ported box or two 10″ sealed; a 2-door has less cargo space, so a shallow 10″ is typical.
Does the Bronco have a factory subwoofer?
Some trims have a premium audio system with a subwoofer. Check yours before planning — an aftermarket box usually replaces it or sits next to it.
How does taking the top off change the bass?
With the roof and doors on, the cabin lifts the deep bass. With them off, that lift is mostly gone and the same sub sounds thin below 50 Hz — plan more box volume or cone area if you drive open a lot.
How do I keep the box dry?
Seal MDF with resin or paint, cover it with marine carpet or vinyl, keep it off the floor on rubber feet, and consider a marine-rated sub if you drive with the top off.
